What Did Diamond Canopies Build at Oak Place?
Diamond Canopies East Africa was engaged to deliver one of our most ambitious projects to date: a comprehensive tensile membrane shade installation at Oak Place Conference and Training Centre in Ruiru, Kiambu County. The project encompassed three distinct structures designed to transform the venue's outdoor spaces into all-weather, shaded environments.
The centrepiece is a massive multi-arch tensile canopy spanning the main outdoor event and conference area, engineered to shelter hundreds of guests from sun and rain. Complementing this is a swimming pool shade sail providing UV protection for the pool area, and a striking star-shaped entrance gateway canopy that sets the tone for the entire property.

Main Event Canopy
Large-span multi-arch tensile membrane covering the outdoor conference and events area, accommodating hundreds of guests under all-weather protection.
Swimming Pool Shade
Elegant tensile shade sail over the pool area, blocking harmful UV rays while maintaining an open, airy atmosphere for swimmers and poolside guests.

Engineering & Materials
A project of this scale demanded precision engineering and premium materials throughout:
- Framework: Heavy-gauge galvanised steel tubular sections with curved arch profiles, custom-fabricated for each canopy span
- Membrane: UV-stabilised PVC/PVDF tensile fabric (cream/beige) with 15+ year lifespan and self-cleaning properties
- Connections: Stainless steel plate connectors, turnbuckles, and cable tensioning systems for precise membrane profiling
- Foundations: Deep reinforced concrete pad foundations engineered for Kenya's soil conditions and wind loads
- Finish: Industrial-grade powder coat on all exposed steelwork for maximum corrosion resistance
From Framework to Finished Product
Our team managed the entire project lifecycle on-site:
- Structural Design — Engineered drawings for the multi-arch main canopy, pool shade, and entrance gateway
- Steel Fabrication — On-site cutting, welding, and assembly of curved steel arches and support structures
- Framework Erection — Sequential lifting and bolting of the main arch trusses using heavy plant equipment
- Membrane Installation — Careful stretching and tensioning of PVC membrane panels across each arch bay
- Pool Shade & Entrance — Parallel installation of the swimming pool shade sail and entrance star canopy
- Finishing & Handover — Final tensioning, drainage checks, lighting integration, and client walkthrough
